SNOW!!!

SNOW!!! We built a giant snowman, made snow angels and had a snowball fight…

Climbing and Brockhole…

By the time we reached the horses, the snow was falling heavily and after the problems we had had at Devoke water and getting the car stuck, Bob was eager to get back.

New years day walk: Devoke Water

Eventually we made it back safely, but it was definitely not the peaceful walk we were hoping for.

Like I said things don’t always go according the plan…

Tarn Hows…

We stripped their snow suits off and enjoyed the journey back home in their underwear with blankets wrapped around them…

Skelwith Bridge and Elterwater…

Today, the carefully prepared woolies bag got left behind so the kids ended up with spare socks for gloves (not for the first time) but they did the job.

A quick trip to Grizedale…

Now is the time to get out and do a bit of forest bathing and exploring while all the leaves off their finest colours, before they all fall off and Winter sets in…

Things to do in Cumbria this half term?

Wherever you are in the country, check out your local areas “What’s on” page for activities in your area.

If in doubt or organised fun isn’t your thing, put on your boots, grab your waterproof and get outside! Go for a walk, jump in puddles and kick some leaves!

Safari Zoo: A second chance and penguins…

After our slightly disappointing first visit, I’m glad we went back, and we will definitely go back again (we’re even thinking of getting an annual pass). It has got me thinking about other places we have been that we have written off after a bad experience.

Maybe we should look at going back and giving those places a second chance?

Brockhole and Tantrums…

Sometimes a day out doesn’t go as planned. We can prepare for the weather, or for accidents but we can’t prepare for the mood the kids are in.

Apple Day and Butterflies…

It was very exciting for him and just proved that even in a quick half hour walk, you can have a wildlife encounter. I think it has inspired us to have more after dinner walks and more mini adventures.

A birthday treat! Orrest Head, Lakes Aquarium, Steam Railway and a surprise owl…

This walk has repeatedly been listed as easy and it’s height wasn’t much greater than the Hoad Monument, so I thought it would be a good choice for the kids but, looking at how steep the hill in front was and the fact I couldn’t see the well known sign stating it was just 20 minutes to the top, I was starting to doubt everything I had read about it.

Get your kids outdoors!

The outdoors being anything from a bug hunt in the garden to spending a day walking or a night wild camping. Sadly though, kids just aren’t spending enough time outdoors and parents are acknowledging this.
